World Tourism Body Gives Zambia Top Ranking
The Zambian Tourism minister Patrick Kalifungwa has announced that the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) has ranked Zambia as Africa's number one emerging tourist destination. All Africa Report Hey…and that's another safari award… they never seen to end!
Sorry I digressed! ...The minister attributed this to the tourism sector that had developed tremendously in Zambia and the world tourism body had noticed the progress made. Developments like the meeting of South African travel agents in Livingstone in the second week of February, Air Tanzania's re- introduction of flights to Lusaka and a reduction in fares for local tourists by Zambian Airways all point to this phenomenon.
Mr Kalifungwa said the ministry had set a target of one million tourists by the year 2010 from the 610,00 visitors in 2004.
